About Toronto Parks and Trees and the Tree For Me project:

Tree for Me matches Toronto residents with the right tree for their property, contributing to our goal of 40% tree cover. Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation partners with local community groups to deliver Tree for Me events across the city. Tree for Me offers residents of Toronto a free native tree that is grown from local seed stock. The trees are best suited to grow in Toronto and adapt to the immediate and future impacts of climate change, what better way to renew our urban forest. At the Tree for Me event, participants are asked to take part in a tree planting and tree care workshop prior to receiving their free tree.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Position: Tree For Me event support

About the role:

Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation partners with community organizations to bring Tree For Me events to neighbourhoods across Toronto. Through the Tree For Me program, Toronto residents with room to plant a tree can sign up to receive a free native tree and pick it up at a community event. At Tree For Me events, participants take part in a short tree stewardship workshop prior to receiving their tree and mulch.

Tree For Me is powered by volunteers. TPTF is currently recruiting volunteers to help out at these community events. Some of the roles you might be asked to fill are: greeter, check-in/registration table, assisting with workshops, handing out trees, managing the mulch pile, taking photos, and handing out information.
Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation will be showcasing the Tree For Me program at the 2017 Green Living Show (April 7th-9th) in support of the Every Tree Counts campaign to increase our urban tree cover to 40%. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage with the public, encouraging visitors to map their trees and take part in our mock Tree For Me tree planting demos.
